"KING IS IN THE FIELD", - this is what we say in the month of Elul. Fields are just outside the cities and the king in the field signifies he is on his way to the people. He is looking at the harvest, our deeds.
Rosh Hashana is the day of our collective human creation, the birthday of Adam, the birthday of humanity. And this is when the King approaches to judge us. A year went by and a new one is about to be granted so He asks, how we spent the year of life He gave us. How we used our time, the great gift and opportunity to do good in this world, what we did with it. Sadly we see in recent days that judgements are harsh. Events like hurricanes, wildfires, earthquakes, heatwaves and droughts are not man-made. Its time for us all to repent before Hashem.
King is in the field, but approaching. And its not too late to clean ourselves up and dress up in our best mitzvot, its never too late to do that. May He have Mercy on us all and may we take the remainder of time left in this year and repent, make tikkun olam and greet Him in shining radiance.
